“Coaching is unlocking people’s potential to maximize their own performance. It is helping them to learn rather than teaching them.” John Whitmore.
This quote neatly encapsulates what coaching is all about for me. I’ve been coaching people since 2000 when I joined the BBC’s pool of internal coaches. The individuals I worked with included a drama producer, a sports editor, a marketing director and an IT manager. As a coach, I helped them identify the goals they wanted to achieve, the changes they wanted to make, and acted as a source of support, challenge, motivation and inspiration. A recent coaching client describes my approach as “both unintimidating and thought provoking. She enabled the experience of ‘me being heard, was attentive and encouraged me to share my anxieties and to make sense of my challenges.”

Lucy’s coaching was wholly positive for me and has helped me make sense of my career anxieties and challenges. This experience has helped me make good steps to gaining my ‘inner confidence’ back and has assisted me to focus on my strengths and personal values. Visually speaking, the experience has allowed me to find missing pieces to my jigsaw.
Lucy is an excellent coach, she knows how to listen and tailor her coaching to your professional as well as personal needs. She helped me tremendously to prepare interviews for two academic jobs for which I was successful despite the fierce competition. The work I did with her had a big influence on the way I approached and prepared for both my academic/research presentation and my interview. I have since recommended Lucy to anybody who is facing similar challenges.
